Structure

The Antarctic Science Platform is hosted by Antarctica New Zealand, and funded by the Ministry for Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Our governance, management and operational structure is designed for success.

How we work

Steering Group

Our Steering Group members, appointed by MBIE and Antarctica NZ, provide independent oversight of the strategic direction and performance of the platform.

Kāhui Māori

The Kāhui Māori provides the Steering Group and Platform Leadership Team with strategic advice and input into the Platform’s responsiveness to iwi, hapū, whānau and Māori business goals.

The Kāhui Māori is shared with the Deep South National Science Challenge, which is an amazing opportunity to increase Māori representation and integrate Te Ao Māori (Māori world view) into Antarctic and Southern Ocean research.

Independent Science Panel

The Independent Science Panel plays a crucial role in ensuring science excellence from project initiation through to delivery. They provides independent strategic oversight to the Platform Director and Steering Group on the scientific direction of the Platform, as well as advising on science quality.

The Independent Science Panel is multidisciplinary and comprises internationally-renowned research leaders, with demonstrated track records in delivering research outcomes to end-users.

Platform Leadership Team

The Platform Leadership Team is responsible for designing, advancing and monitoring the development and delivery of the Antarctic Science Platform.

Platform Participants

The Antarctic Science Platform, hosted by Antarctica New Zealand, is a research collaboration between New Zealand-based Crown Research Institutes, universities and other research providers. We are also widely connected to international research teams and Antarctic Programs.
