Building Capability

The Antarctic Science Platform in supporting existing research leaders, growing the next generation of Antarctic researchers and attracting new talent, to sustain and build Aotearoa New Zealand’s strong national capability and international reputation in Antarctic research.

People

Key ways we are building capability include:

  • support for postgraduate students and early career researchers
  • establishment of the National Modelling Hub
  • support for researchers at all career levels to improve their science communication skills, by facilitating training opportunities and initiating relationships with educators, media and mentors for researchers to pursue
  • identify and support researchers with an interest in Antarctic Policy in order to build capability in this area, including facilitating attendance at relevant Antarctic policy and management meetings and workshops
  • support for researchers to continue to develop their knowledge on the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori
