Antarctica could be greener and home to new wildlife, major study of the continent's future finds

Antarctica could become greener and colonised by new wildlife, while some existing species will likely disappear, a major new study compiled by scientists from 14 countries has found.

And climate change caused by human activity is regarded as the greatest threat Antarctica faces, both now and in years to come.

New Zealand researchers are among 25 experts behind a state of the nation-style article on what the future holds for the continent’s delicate ecosystems.

The team of world-leading Antarctic biologists analysed hundreds of research papers from over the last decade to assess the impact of environmental change and glean what lessons can be learned for further studies.
