Atmospheric scientist

Helen is an atmospheric scientist with almost 30 years of experience combining research discovery, delivery and leadership. Her research expertise lies in quantifying the interactions between the land surface and the atmosphere, and their effects on weather, climate and hydrology; and water-use and carbon uptake. Internationally, she has been a member of the World Climate Research Programme Joint Scientific Committee since 2014 and was recently appointed as its vice chair.

She is currently the Director of CSIRO's Climate Science Centre. Helen completed her PhD at the University of British Columbia in Canada, and moved to Australia to take up a role as Lecturer at Macquarie University in Sydney in 1987 and moved to CSIRO in 1994.
