Building Capability

We are sustaining and building New Zealand’s high capability and strong international reputation in Antarctic research. Long-term programmes, coupled with dedicated funding to support innovation, capability and technology development, will allow new and creative means of collecting data.

People

The Antarctic Science Platform supports existing leaders, grows the next generation of Antarctic researchers and attracts new talent, to build our strong national capability in Antarctic research.

Key ways we are building capability include:

  • support for postgraduate students and early career researchers
  • establishment of the National Modelling Hub
  • support for researchers at all career levels to improve their science communication skills by facilitating training opportunities and initiating relationships with educators, media and mentors for researchers to pursue
  • identify and support researchers with an interest in Antarctic Policy in order to build capability in this area, including facilitating attendance at relevant Antarctic policy and management meetings and workshops
