Miles Lamare

PhD

Marine Biologist

University of Otago

Miles Lamare is a marine scientist with a research background in marine invertebrate ecology and larval ecology for polar species. Miles has over 30 years' experience examining the response of Antarctic species to environmental change, including to UV-R, ocean acidification, warming and pollution in polar species. This includes research on a range of key benthic marine invertebrate taxa and fish. In the Antarctic Science Platform, Miles is looking at responses of benthic marine communities to ocean warming and sea ice loss, including understanding long-term ecological responses to environmental variability. Coastal marine ecosystems are characterised by a highly diverse range of marine species that have evolved in environments shaped by sea ice and cold temperatures, and by their nature, are vulnerable to environmental changes that the ASP is focused on.
