Dr Rafael Santana’s expertise is in the dynamics of coastal, sub- and mesoscale ocean variability. His focus is to improve our understanding of ocean and sea-ice dynamics using observations, numerical modelling, and data assimilation.
In the Antarctic Science Platform, Rafa is using neXtSIM-Ant, a next generation sea ice model for Antarctica that represents the dynamic behaviour of sea ice. He is running a series of ocean-ice model experiments to evaluate the paleo, present time and future climate projections of Southern Ocean and Antarctic sea-ice variability.
