Marine Ecologist

NIWA

Dr Vonda Cummings studies the functioning of coastal communities and the environmental factors that influence them. Her research focuses on the implications of acidification, climate change and other anthropogenically-derived changes to our oceans, and their implications for key components of NZ and Antarctic ecosystems.

In the Antarctic Science Platform, Vonda is investigating the ecology of Antarctic benthic (nearshore coastal) ecosystems.

Vonda is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee for the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Science Research Programme AnT-ERA (Antarctic Thresholds - Ecosystem Resilience and Adaptation). She is also co-chair of the SCAR Expert Group ANTOS (Antarctic Nearshore and Terrestrial Observation Systems).
