Expressions of Interest open: Kaiārahi Rangahau Māori (Research Navigator Māori)

The Antarctic Science Platform is calling for Expressions of Interest for a Kaiārahi Rangahau Māori to join our team.

This role will support the Kāhui Māori through the Antarctic Science Platform (ASP) to action the vision:

Aotearoa-New Zealand’s Antarctic science excellence is enhanced through Mātauranga Māori, and Māori benefit from participation in, and engagement with, Platform initiatives.

Reporting to the Chair of the Kāhui Māori, this role will work within the ASP on the co-design of how Māori knowledge can be observed and embedded within existing and future ASP projects. The Kaiārahi Rangahau Māori role is to encourage, grow and enhance Mātauranga Māori research and collaborative research between Māori and Antarctic scientists.

Core functions will include:

  • Leading the delivery of the ASP’s Kāhui Māori workplan and whāinga.
  • Being an active member of the ASP operations team, both learning and enhancing the ASP processes and systems.
  • Building strong working relationships across the ASP that enhance both Māori perspectives and Māori research capabilities.
  • Supporting the raising of Māori cultural capability and confidence of ASP members in respect to kaupapa Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Providing guidance on potential partnerships and activity that stimulates opportunities for Māori participation and innovative ways of working.
  • Modelling behaviour and conduct that effectively upholds the mana of the ASP.

The role can be part-time (0.5-1.0 FTE by mutual agreement), for a fixed term to the end of the ASP’s first (current) phase of funding (to 30 June 2025). Depending on future funding, there may be an opportunity to extend the term of the role and nurture a longer term workplan.

The location for this role is flexible, however the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate how they will engage with New Zealand’s Antarctic Science Platform community. National travel is expected and will be supported.

A contract for services is the preferred mode of engagement, but a secondment or fixed-term employment arrangement can be considered.
