Abhi Ulayottil Venugopal is an ice-core paleoclimatologist and climate modeler with expertise in two complementary areas of climate research. His paleoclimate research uses ice-core records to investigate abrupt climate changes that occurred in the past. His climate-modelling research focuses on aerosol–climate interactions and the processes governing climate variability using Earth system models. As part of the Antarctic Science Platform Phase II, he uses transient climate-model simulations to investigate how freshwater influx into the Southern Ocean influences accumulation rates across the Antarctic continent.
