Antonia is a marine biogeochemist and phytoplankton ecologist focusing on the Southern Ocean. Her research includes phytoplankton ecology, physiology and the impact of climate change in carbon fluxes and trophic flows. In the Antarctic Science Platform, Antonia will investigate how climate change is impacting phytoplankton composition, distribution and diversity, and how these changes are affecting carbon fluxes in the Ross Sea, especially under changing sea ice dynamics.
