Dr. Cassandra Brooks is an Associate Professor in Environmental Studies and a Faculty Fellow in the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
An interdisciplinary scholar, she works across marine science, environmental policy, and science communication with the last 20 years of her career largely focused on Antarctic conservation. She was involved in the effort to designate the Ross Sea region protected area and has since been working on coordinating research and monitoring efforts in the MPA as Principal Investigator for the Ross Sea Research Coordination Network.
She is currently the Chief Officer of SCAR’s Standing Committee on the Antarctic Treaty System, through which she brings science to inform policy at annual meetings of the Antarctic Treaty and CCAMLR. Cassandra has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and popular media, received several prestigious awards and grants, and has been recognized for her exceptional teaching and mentorship.
