Mia Wege

PhD

Predator Ecologist

University of Canterbury

Mia is a marine predator ecologist with a research background in Antarctic and sub-Antarctic ecosystems and the foraging ecology of marine predators for understanding the impacts of environmental change. Her research focuses on seal behaviour, diet, distribution, and habitat use, applying satellite tracking, biologging technologies, and quantitative methods to examine how marine predators interact with their environment and how this shapes population dynamics.

In the Antarctic Science Platform, Mia is an Objective 2 Lead investigating the foraging habitats of penguins and seals using satellite tracking and diving behaviour data. This work will identifying key ecological areas and improving our understanding of how climate change may alter the relationships between predators and their environments.
