Rachel Hickcox is a postdoctoral fellow with a research background in movement ecology of seabirds and marine mammals across New Zealand and Antarctica. Her work integrates biologging and quantitative spatial modelling to understand how marine predators use their environment.
In the Antarctic Science Platform, Rachel is investigating the foraging behaviour of Antarctic mesopredators within the Ross Sea Region Marine Protected Area. She is combining foraging, diving, and environmental data to update the Eco-index (established in 2012) and examine habitat use, spatial overlap, and temporal variation in space use across species.
