Choosing the future of Antarctica

Authors: S. R. Rintoul, S.L. Chown, R.M. DeCento, et all
Year Published: 2021
Document Type: Papers
Summary: We present two narratives on the future of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, from the perspective of an observer looking back from 2070. In the first scenario, greenhouse gas emissions remained unchecked, the climate continued to warm, and the policy response was ineffective; this had large ramifications in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, with worldwide impacts. In the second scenario, ambitious action was taken to limit greenhouse gas emissions and to establish policies that reduced anthropogenic pressure on the environment, slowing the rate of change in Antarctica.

Case Study: The 2021 ReLiCC voyage of the RV Tangaroa: contributions to the strategic intent of the Antarctic Science Platform

Authors: Antarctic Science Platform
Year Published: 2021
Document Type: Case Studies
Summary: The Ross Sea Life in a Changing Climate (ReLiCC) voyage undertaken by the RV Tangaroa in 2021 was the first to support a significant amount of research from the Antarctic Science Platform (ASP).

Platelet Ice: A Unique and Fragile Antarctic Ecosystem

Authors: Natalie Robinson and Rowan Howard-Williams
Year Published: 2021
Document Type: Cold Call Articles
Ownership: Antarctic Science Platform
Summary: Just beneath the sea ice of the Ross Sea lies a fragile and largely unexplored world. Thin, delicate ice crystals come together in a layer, which can be several metres thick, attached to the bottom of the sea ice.
